Life Pieces To Masterpieces is proud to be the recipient of the 2017 Bridge Builder Award for Outstanding Community Partner from one of our strongest and most valued community partners, the Georgetown University Center for Social Justice (CSJ). We were honored at the CSJ Celebration on April 30, 2017. We are so grateful for our partnership with the CSJ through their Georgetown DC Reads program. Through DC Reads, a committed group of 14 volunteers come twice a week to provide 1-on-1 reading support to our apprentices who need it most. This year, every apprentice who worked with a DC Reads tutor increased their reading level, with the majority increasing their level by 2 or more!

In presenting Life Pieces To Masterpieces with the award, Evan Morgan, a DC Reads tutor and the Georgetown student coordinator for LPTM, said:

Their work in preparing me and our tutors for the semester enhanced the experience for everyone involved. Most importantly, LPTM fosters a community with a foundation built on compassion, respect, and love.

-Evan Morgan,  Georgetown University ’18

Whether in the art room, classroom, or with DC Reads tutors, our apprentices, staff, and volunteers know that they are loved, they are safe, and they are free to express themselves. It is that energy and core belief that allows this partnership to thrive.
