Life Pieces To Masterpieces is a safe sanctuary for hundreds of African American young men and boys growing up in Washington, DC’s most poverty-stricken and volatile neighborhoods.
More than 90 percent of our apprentices live in Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, DC. They represent the more than 45,000 predominantly African American children under the age of 18 that live in the area. Research shows that these two wards are underserved and plagued by a myriad of social, physical, and mental health problems, including gang activity, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, violence, and incarceration. These problems are compounded by a lack of positive male role models. Seventy-five percent of households are headed by single females.
In DC neighborhoods where only 33% of students graduate from high school, LPTM helps break the cycle of poverty with a 100% graduation rate.
