Resilience, 2020

print | 32 x 32 in.

This painting shows the resilience of Native people, and their ongoing battle for freedom. We celebrate their lives and stories and lift their voices. We learn from their lessons of family and community.

Beginning in 1831, over 60,000 Native Americans were forced to relocate 5,000 miles on foot in the Trail of Tears. By sticking together, leading one another, and teaching their values and traditions with their youth, the Cherokee Nation was able to survive and remain a strong community.
